Today I’ve added two more of my previous builds to the Gallery.
A Spitfire MkIa from Airfix and a Zero A6M5c from Academy.
(Maybe it would have been more fitting to have Tamiya or Hasegawa one…)
Anyhow…
In my opinion both really fall into the same bracket in terms of complexity, quality and detail.
Perhaps Airfix is a bit higher above as it provides retracted landing gear, has a pilot figure, regardless of him being the ugliest pilots in the Plastic Air Force (PAF for short).
The Academy kit shines with its more intricate panel lines and rivet detail, especially on the cowling and that their decals are really good in conforming to the surface, whilst the Cartograph decals used by Airfix, do need a bit of convincing in the form of a hobby knife.
But here Airfix outshines Academy with a much cleaner, crisper print (you can actually read some of the tiny text under a magnifier).
Airfix is a clear winner, if this would be a contest (which it is not).
But…
I do have a Zero A6M2b from Airfix in the making.
And although it is their beginner range, I think it will be a much better comparison than the Spitfire.
So stay tuned for that one.
Also, I do apologize for all the lint and dust in the images.
That’s what one gets when they don’t store their models in sealed display cases or cabinets.
